PETKIT Pura Max 2 Review
The Pura Max 2 is the Purobot with the camera removed and $470 knocked off, and for most households that is the smarter purchase.
Verdict
The Pura Max 2 is the Purobot with the camera removed and $470 knocked off, and for most households that is the smarter purchase. You keep the excellent app, the strong deodoriser and the wide litter compatibility. You still pay for PETKIT bag rolls, which over three years quietly erases the price advantage over boxes that take kitchen bags.
Pros
- Same excellent PETKIT app at half the Purobot price
- Strong active deodoriser
- Accepts tofu and mixed litter
- Compact for a full-capacity box
Cons
- Proprietary bag rolls at roughly $90 a year
- No camera or per-cat identification
- 17.6 lb weight ceiling
Best for
- App-focused buyers on a mid budget
- Two-cat homes
- Tofu litter users
Not ideal for
- Large cats
- Anyone who refuses consumable subscriptions
Scores
Six categories, weighted toward the two that people actually buy these for. See the method.
Cleaning
Good, with the same wide litter compatibility as the Purobot. The 9 L drawer suits two cats comfortably and three at a push.
Odor control
The deodoriser module plus sealed bag roll works well and is a step ahead of the CATLINK Luxury Pro at a similar price. Good with two cats through a week.
Safety
Infrared, weight sensing and anti-pinch reverse — the standard three layers, without the camera backstop.
Noise
Around 48 dB at three feet. Mid-pack, and slightly louder than the Purobot because of a faster drum.
Setup
About twenty minutes. Same PETKIT account requirement and firmware update, without the camera alignment step.
App
The same excellent PETKIT app, minus per-cat visual identification. Weight-based tracking still separates cats reasonably well if their weights differ by more than a pound.
Consumables
Proprietary bag rolls again, around $90 a year plus filters. Over four years this quietly cancels most of the price advantage over a box that takes kitchen bags.
Long-term cost
Cheap to buy, expensive to feed. Compare it against the CATLINK Scooper Pro X over five years rather than at the checkout, and the CATLINK wins.
